Michael J. Beggs Jr., Esq. is co-founder of Smith Beggs, LLC.  Mike is a graduate of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey and Rutgers School of Law located in Newark, New Jersey.  Mike has a unique background providing both legal and business services to a variety of clients.

 

Immediately after law school, Mike worked for a Bergen County law firm representing plaintiffs in personal injury, worker’s compensation, and business litigations.  Thereafter, Mike began his career in healthcare joining a medical billing company as in-house counsel in Somerset County.  While working at the now public billing company, Mike represented the company in acquisitions, HIPAA issues, collections, and Software-as-a-Service (Saas) agreements.  After working for the medical billing company, Mike worked as in-house counsel representing a number of hospitals, medical groups, and management services organizations in Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, and Essex Counties.  During his time in-house, he handled a number of different issues spanning his organizations in all areas of the law including reviewing vendor and physician employment agreements, drafting operating agreements for joint ventures,  researching regulatory and licensing issues, and handling corporate governance with the executive and ownership teams.  In addition to his in-house healthcare experience, Mike worked at one of New York and New Jersey’s premier healthcare boutique law firms.  While at the firm, Mike handled pharmacy acquisitions, ambulatory surgery center (ASC) formation, and tele-health contracts.  In addition to his legal background, Mike has worked as the Vice President of Operations for two large medical groups.

Charles J. Smith, Esq. is co-founding partner of Smith Beggs, LLC. Charles represents healthcare professionals and institutions on various transactional and regulatory matters.  

 

With an extensive background in health law, Charles has served as counsel to managed care organizations, acute care health systems, medical groups, ambulatory surgical facilities, advanced practice provider groups, home care agencies, and skilled nursing facilities advising on various issues and subject matters, including:

 

Upon receiving his Juris Doctor from Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, Charles began his career as a health law attorney representing a for-profit health system operating in New Jersey.  Serving as in-house counsel in this role, Charles gained significant operational insight to the business of healthcare, which has served useful in allowing Charles to provide more practical and "implementable" advice on various legal issues.

 

Charles further honed his transactional and regulatory skills serving as in-house counsel to a managed care organization and large home health agency based in New York City and as general counsel to various health systems operating out of Connecticut.  

 

With this unique background, Charles provides efficient and practical legal advice to his clients helping them to achieve their outcomes while avoiding regulatory pitfalls.
